I saw a commercial announcing the re-release of the Star Wars films in 3D and I began to think about how Lucas said he’s done with filmmaking because people keep saying shit about him tinkering with Star Wars. That lead to me thinking was Empire (the obviously best in the series) really that good or was it just locked into my 6 year old mind as perfection. I know I have seen Empire at least 30 times but that was spread out over 32 years I wanted obsession level analysis. I decided I would spend the 30 days watching it over and over. I would devote 1/12th of my life to Empire. I spent the next two days mulling over what I have coming for the next 30 days.I hypothesized the physiological progression of the challenge as:The Six Stages of Empire
- Awesomeness
- Appreciation of new detail
- Annoyance
- Imagined subtext
- Incorporation into reality
- Insanity
Will I come out of this wearing Stormtrooper armor to bed? Will I crush the memories of my childhood by despising the most beloved movie? Will I be unable to relate to anything in non-star wars terms? I really don’t know.
This starts for me tomorrow, so if I get a bit deranged this month you’ll know why. I’m going to try and keep it contained to 30 days of Empire instead of annoying the fuck out of everyone. Join me on a misadventure of nostalgia-destroying, brainwashing fandom down the Sarlacc of Star Wars madness.
Dude is gonna go batshit crazy. I promise to post our awesome g-chat sessions when he starts losing his shit.
Did he forget the “Utters Empire movie quotes as part of normal dialogue” stage, or does that roll up under “Incorporation into reality”. Good luck May the force be with you…. always.
