“Dairyland Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha, Wisconsin will be closing on December 31, 2009. 900 Greyhounds need to be adopted or they will be euthanized.
Please help me get the word out; there are only 6 weeks to get this done. Contact Joanne Kehoe Operations Director P: 312-559-0887 Or Dairyland Race Track Adoption Center direct at 262-612-8256”
Greyhound Pets of America, the organization I volunteer for and where I got Seven from, has looked into the situation. They’ve posted information on their blog:
http://greyhoundpets.blogspot.com/2009/11/dairyland-greyhound-racetrack-closing.html
Short version (in case you don’t wish to Click-thru):
1. The actual number is between 300 and 500 dogs.
2. The track is closing, but the kennel will stay open UNTIL EVERY DOG IS CLAIMED BY AN ADOPTION AGENCY. No greyhounds will be destroyed or left behind.
3. If you live in one of the neighboring states (WI, IL, MI, MN, IN, OH and IA), and would like to adopt a greyhound, call 1-800-366-1472 and you will be transferred to the adoption coordinator at your local chapter.
